About
Myofunctional Therapy
Myofunctional therapy is a specialized approach to improving oral and facial muscle function, with a strong focus on tongue posture, swallowing patterns, and breathing habits. This therapy plays a crucial role in promoting overall health and wellness by addressing issues like tongue ties, mouth breathing, and incorrect swallowing techniques. By guiding patients through exercises and techniques, myofunctional therapy aims to restore proper muscle function, leading to improved speech, breathing, and facial aesthetics. At Recovery Essentials we are dedicated to helping our clients achieve optimal oral and facial function through personalized myofunctional therapy programs.
Buteyko Breathing Method
The Buteyko breathing method is a holistic and natural approach to retraining your breathing patterns. Developed by Dr. Konstantin Buteyko, this method emphasizes the importance of nasal breathing, reduced breath volume, and maintaining healthy carbon dioxide levels in the body. By practicing Buteyko techniques, individuals can alleviate a variety of respiratory issues, such as asthma, allergies, snoring, and anxiety, while improving their overall well-being. We offer expert guidance in the Buteyko breathing method to help you harness the power of your breath for better health and vitality.

Is myofunctional therapy covered by insurance?
The answer is YES, however, it is covered under the Physical Therapy aspect of your medical insurance. Since every plan is different and has different restrictions and benefits, we can’t tell you if your exact policy will cover this therapy.
Recovery Essentials has been able to successfully bill medical insurances for patients, and they were able to have therapy covered to various degrees. However, since Recovery Essentials is a small practice, the actual process of billing ended up taking so much time that there wasn’t time to treat patients. If you have a desire to submit claims to your insurance company yourself, we would be happy to provide you with Insurance codes, treatment notes, documentation, in short, all the paperwork you need to submit to your insurance, but we just don’t have time to file with the insurance ourselves.
Can myofunctional therapy help with issues related to orthodontics and braces?
Yes, myofunctional therapy can complement orthodontic treatment by addressing issues like tongue thrust and improper swallowing patterns that may affect the alignment of teeth. It can enhance the effectiveness of braces or other orthodontic interventions.
Are in-person sessions necessary, or can I do myofunctional therapy exercises remotely?
While in-person sessions are beneficial for personalized guidance, remote options are also available. We can provide guidance through online consultations and support you in performing exercises from the comfort of your own home.
Is the Buteyko method suitable for children as well as adults?
Yes, the Buteyko method can be adapted for both children and adults. It's a safe and natural approach that can benefit people of all ages.
Is Myo covered by HSA/FSA?
Yes! Recovery Essentials has a tax ID and National Provider ID number. Myofunctional Therapy is recognized as a legitimate health care service that can utilize HAS/FSA funds and falls under your physical therapy aspect of care. Many patients do find that they may not have the best coverage for Myofunctional Therapy, so using HSA/ FSA funds can make paying for therapy much more manageable
